How safe do you feel your home is when it comes to keeping criminals away?
If in fact your home could be safer, don’t you think now would be a good time to start making changes?
It only takes one intrusion to change your world forever.
So, how can you better safeguard your home so that you feel safer at the end of the day?
Take Steps Now to Be Safer
In protecting your home from criminals, here are three ways to go about it:
- Do a thorough review of the home – Start the process by doing a thorough review of your home. Some or much of that review can come if you are doing home renovations. Chances are you are missing some things when it comes to safety. By going through every room in the home, you can see what it is you may need to correct. If you have family or friends who are police or home security experts, ask them to take a walk through the home. Their two cents could prove quite valuable to you. Your goal is to always stay one step ahead of the criminal so they are not in control.
- Check obvious areas of entry – Two areas of entry for criminals trying to get in would be doors and windows. As such, take the time to review doors and windows. See if there is any security lacking and how best to go about fixing the issue. If you have sliding glass doors in one or more areas of the home, make sure they are secure. Such doors are quite popular given they provide great views for many homeowners. You can do a little research online to determine how to secure a sliding glass door. Once secure, you can feel more at ease. Also look to your windows. If you have various windows that an individual could fit through, they then are a security risk. Even when you are home, it is wise to keep windows and doors locked.
- Don’t give criminals open invitation – Another thing to think about is commonsense. The last thing you want to do is make it easier for an intruder to gain entry. With that in mind, be smart. For example, are you planning an upcoming trip? If so, make sure your home is secure when you leave. Do you have a home security system? If not, it would be a good idea to think about getting one. Such a system can come in especially handy when you are away. Also make it a point not to let mail and newspapers pile up when you are gone from home. If you have a neighbor you can trust, ask them to keep an eye on your home while gone. If you live in an area where it snows in the winter, be sure to keep the outside shoveled. Last, do not let any bushes or grass get out of control. This will show potential intruders that someone is around.
In safeguarding your home from intruders, do all you can to keep them outside and you safe inside.
