SSC CHSL Syllabus 2020

The SSC CHSL Syllabus is designed to select candidates that can fill the posts of Sorting Assistants/Postal Assistants (PA/SA), Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Data Entry Operator (DEO) and Court Clerk in various departments and Ministries of the Government of India.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Higher Secondary (CHSL) exam in three tiers – Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3. This article will give a general overview of the syllabus of all the three tiers.

In accordance with the SSC CHSL Notification, the tables below give a detailed syllabus of all three tiers of the CHSL exam.

*Note: Questions are designed to test the candidates’ general awareness of the environment around them and its application to society. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries as well


SSC CHSL Syllabus for Quantitative Aptitude

1. Number System: Computation of Whole Number, Decimal and Fractions 
2. Fundamental Arithmetical Operations: Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square
3 Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and elementary Surds (simple problems) and Graphs of Linear Equations
4 Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts
5 Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone
6 Trigonometry: Trigonometric Ratios, Complementary angles, Height and Distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities like sin2 + Cos2 =1 etc
7 Statistical Charts: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency, Polygon, Bar-Diagram, Pie-chart


Syllabus for SSC CHSL 2020 Tier II


Tier 2 of the exam will be conducted in offline mode, meaning that it will be a pen and paper-based exam.


The below table shows the allotment of marks, word count, topics and duration of Tier 2:

Syllabus  For SSC CHSL 2020 Tier III


This examination is a Skill Typing Test, which is of qualifying nature. 

The table below lists out in detail the Skill Test, Time and Speed needed to qualify:


Skill Test Speed Time
Data Entry Operator Data Entry Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour on the computer.  The duration of the test will be for 15 minutes 
Data Entry Operator in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) The speed of 15000 key depressions per hour will be adjudged on the basis of correct entry The duration of the test will be for 15 minutes
Lower Division Clerk/ Junior Secretariat Assistant (LDS/JSA) and Postal Assistants/ Sorting Assistants (PA/SA)  The speed of 10500 key depressions per hour will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry The duration of the test will be for 15 minutes
