According to the World Health Organization, overweight and obesity are now becoming prevalent in low-income and middle-income countries despite being considered a problem in high-income countries.

Excess weight and obesity have been linked to many chronic and even life-threatening diseases today. Excessive fat in the body impairs health and increases the risks of many illnesses in the body. No matter how many detox drinks you take in Singapore, without proper diet and exercise, you will still be at risk of these diseases.

Cardiovascular Diseases

Studies have shown that excess body weight has a direct connection to cardiovascular diseases such as Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). People who are overweight are 32% more likely to develop CAD than those with a healthy weight. Furthermore, people that are obese are 81% more likely to have CAD than people with normal weight.

On the flip side, ischemic stroke is22% more likely in people who are overweight while 64% in people who are obese.

Many people undergobody treatment in Singapore to achieve a healthy weight.

Diabetes

Studieshave shown that women with a BMI of 35 and above are 93 times more at risk of developing type 2 diabetes than women with a BMI of 22 and lower.

Diabetes is also one of the top diseases that are common to people who are overweight and obese.

People with diabetes become more responsive to insulin; therefore, changing the body’s way of metabolising fats, carbohydrates, and other nutrients that affects the blood sugar levels in the body. On top of that, several complications of diabetes, such as inappropriate inflammation, pose vulnerability to health.

Although there are sugar substitutes, zero sugar and no added sugar products, andslimming coffee in Singapore, these products may not be enough to reverse the effects of diabetes on the body without exercise.

Reproductive Health

Reproductive issues among women, like libido, infertility, and conception issues, have also been linked to overweight and obesity.

People who have BMI between 20 and 24 have lower cases of developing infertility.

Obesity is also linked to miscarriage cases and other pregnancy and child delivery complications such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes.

However, the effects of obesity on male reproductive health are still unclear.

People find a wellness centre in Singapore for weight management programmes to boost the chance of conception, especially among women.

Respiratory Diseases

Being overweight and obese can also impact our respiratory functions. The abdominal fat restricts diaphragm movement and lung expansion. Excessive fat can also narrow down the airways.

The respiratory disease called obstructive sleep apnea is also linked to overweight and obesity. Sleep apnea is caused by blocked airways in the body. People who suffer from sleep apnea may experience daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, and irregular breathing while asleep.
