What You Need to Know About Postpartum Recovery

Many moms-to-be often prepare for the baby but forget to think about what their recovery will be like after birth. While your whole world will likely revolve around your new bundle of joy, it’s important to remember to take care of yourself as well. Knowing what you’re up against and preparing in advance can be extremely beneficial for the recovery process. Here are a few things you can expect postpartum.

Hormones Changes

Giving birth does not mean your hormones will immediately go back to normal. In fact, they will likely be all over the place. Many women experience what is known as the baby blues, which can cause you to feel sad for no particular reason. If this doesn’t go away on its own in a few weeks, you’ll want to see a doctor right away as you may be experiencing postpartum depression San Antonio

Weight Loss

While you’ll lose some of the weight immediately after giving birth, it can take months or longer to get rid of it all. You may notice that you still look pregnant in the week after giving birth. This is perfectly normal as it takes at least six weeks for your uterus to shrink back to its pre-pregnancy size.

You can expect to feel tired from lack of sleep with a newborn, but your body will feel worn out as well. You’ve just given birth and it takes time to recover from that. Eating right and going on short walks can help with this, but it’s important to listen to your body and rest as much as possible.

Although you’re busy preparing for baby, make sure to take the time to talk to your doctor and find out what your recovery will look like as well. After all, a healthy, happy mom can help lead to a more well-adjusted baby.
